"Vintage Abbott’s Levante Block - If you could really do a Block Off Rope penetration by real magic, this is what it would look like. A block and rope would be thoroughly examined by a spectator. He would thread the block onto the rope through one single hole and no funny loops or knots. Spectators would hold both ends of the rope. The magician would then take the block and, with no cover, visibly lift it up, through and off the rope! He would then immediately toss the block for furt...her examination. That’s real magic and that is exactly what happens with the Levante Block. No outside gimmicks, no nonsense, just a direct straightforward penetration of a solid block of wood through a solid ungimmicked rope.
The mechanism for making this effect possible is really quite simple. However, building it inside a solid block of wood and making it invisible from the outside is not so simple. This is a mechanical marvel. Even looking down the hole with a flashlight will reveal nothing. That’s how well made this model is. This vintage block from Abbott’s “golden era” is one of the two best versions of this block ever made. The other is one made by Richard Buffum. Both models, regrettably, are now very difficult to find.
Obviously, the effect is pretty much the same as the Pineapple Block. The main advantages to this block are that it can be examined, with close scrutiny, before and after the effect. Despite that, the trick can be immediately repeated. A spectator may thread the block with no direction from you and no fear of him accidentally stumbling onto the secret. And, finally, you can use a thick rope with this block and are not confined to a thin cord or ribbon as with the Pineapple Block.
This one locks so solid that it will withstand extremely close examination. Complete with video instructions."
