WW2 German Luftwaffe Radio / First Aid Hatch - Me109 G10 / G14 - VERY RARE
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:1174490 |
This access hatch was mounted on the fifth fuselage section on the Me109. It allowed for access to the radio equipment, mutterkompass, and first aid kit.... Made of wood and steel, this access hatch is an AMAZING example. This is the MUCH RARER late-wood wood type that saw action between 1944 and 1945, and used in the G10 and G14. This new design not only saved on aluminum, but also made it easier for the pilot to access the first aid kit, with the addition of large circular hole. This hole was covered by a thin sheet of ply, when if needed, would be punched (or kicked) out, in order to access the medical supplies. As this was an aircraft that was captured at war's end, and subsequently traded to Yugoslavia. The previous restoration company remove all the original paint. There are some slight traces of German paint, however, on the back side (see photos). There are some obvious marks and one slight crack, but all this could be rectified quite easily.I have shown the EXACT hatch...as well as the EXACT aircraft this came from, showing the re-painted Yugoslavian colors (which were removed). I am not sure why the restoration team did not use this hatch again, as it was the original, and would have been structurally sound...but then again, that was late 1980's.Easily recognizable, I have indicated ever seen ONE other hatch of this type, making this a VERY RARE item....FANTASTIC for any collection, display, or restoration project!
