1978 BEECHCRAFT DUCHESS 76 TWIN, ONLY 5, 566, 701 SMOH L&R, JUST A LITTLE NOSE SCRAPE!THE DUCHESS IS A MODERN AIRPLANE, CONCEIVED AND DESIGNED IN THE 1970’S, NOT THE 1940’S AND 1950’S LIKE SOME OTHER LIGHT TWINS USED AS TRAINERS.WITH IT’S TWO FULL SIZED CABIN ENTRY DOORS (PLUS BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT DOOR), 180 H.P. LYCOMING ENGINES, MODERN DASH AND THROTTLE QUADRANT LAYOUT, AND FOUR SUPPORTIVE BUCKET SEATS, THE DUCHESS IS A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO SPEND AN HOUR OR A WHOLE DAY!!NO...TICE THE TOTAL TIME ON THIS AIRPLANE!!ONLY 5, 566 SNEW!!THAT IS ½ OF THE AVERAGE TOTAL TIME OF THE OTHER DUCHESSES ON THE MARKET!!THIS AIRPLANE IS STRAIGHT AND UNPATCHED IN THE USUAL PLACES, OWING OF COURSE TO THE LOW TOTAL TIME!THE PAINT IS A GOOD 20 FOOTER, BUT IS PROBIBLY ORIGINAL, SO IT IS THIN IN THE HIGH WEAR AREAS FROM A LOT OF WASH JOBS!THE INTERIOR IS QUITE NEW AND QUITE NICE, WITH PERFORATED GREY SEATS AND MATCHING PANELS.THE INTERIOR IS FAR NICER THAN THE PAINT, SO IF YOU PLAN TO DRESS UP THE PAINT, THE INTERIOR WILL BE FINE AS IS!THIS AIRPLANE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE NOSEGEAR DOORS PREVENTING THE NOSEGEAR FROM EXTENDING.THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE, IT IS A PROBLEM I HAVE SEEN WITH OTHER DUCHESS AIRPLANES, AND MUST HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ONBOARD AT THE TIME, BECAUSE HE IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AND MADE PREPERATIONS WHILE KEEPING A COOL HEAD, WHICH HELPED TO MINIMIZE THE DAMAGE WHEN HE WAS FORCED TO LAND WITH THE MAINS OUT BUT THE NOSE RETRACTED.THE AIRFRAME DAMAGE IS VERY MINIMAL AND CONSISTS ONLY OF THE FOLLOWING:THE FIBERGLASS NOSE CAP HAS THE LOWER PORTION SCRAPED OFF.  THIS PART SIMPLY SCREWS ON, AND WILL BE VERY SIMPLE TO REPLACE OR EVEN REPAIR ONCE UNSCREWED.THE FORWARD NOSE BULKHEAD IS SCRAPED ON THE BOTTOM FEW INCHES.  THIS SIMPLE SKIN WILL BE VERY EASY TO PATCH.THE FORWARD 3-4” OF THE LOWER NOSEGEAR WELL SKINS IS SCRAPED (SHOWN IN SEVERAL PHOTOS).THIS WILL REQUIRE PATCHING ON BOTH SIDES TO AFFECT THE FINAL REPAIR.BOTH NOSEGEAR DOORS ARE INTACT, BUT SUFFERED SCRAPING AT THE FRONT BOTTOM EDGES.  IN TALKING TO SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH THESE AIRPLANES AT THE AIRPORT, HE WAS SURPRISED THAT THE OWNER LEFT THEM INSTALLED, AS THEY ARE OFTEN REMOVED IN A FLIGHT TRAINING ENVIRONMENT.THE ABOVE LISTED DAMAGE IS ALL, YES ALL, OF THE AIRFRAME DAMAGE TO THIS AIRPLANE!!NO WING, CABIN, CONTROL SURFACE DAMAGE AT ALL.NO FIREWALL, ENGINE MOUNT, EXHAUST DAMAGE ON EITHER SIDE.JUST THE FORWARD FEW INCHES OF THE NOSE!!I WISH I COULD SAY THAT THE PILOTS ADVANCE PLANNING AND SKILL WERE SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT ANY OTHER DAMAGE, BUT THAT’S ONLY HALF TRUE.TRUE, HE STOPPED BOTH ENGINES, SO THERE WAS NO SUDDEN STOPPAGE TO EITHER ENGINE.HE FEATHERED BOTH PROPS TO KEEP THEM FROM WINDMILLING.HE BUMPED THE PROPS SO THEY WERE STRAIGHT ACROSS AND COULDN’T DRAG.UNFORTUNATELY, THE PROP ON THE RIGHT ENGINE STOPPED AT A LITTLE ANGLE, NOT PERFECTLY STRAIGHT.AS THE AIRPLANE FINALLY FELL ONTO THE NOSE, AFTER THE PILOT HOLDING IT OFF AS LONG AS POSSIBLE, THE LOWER BLADE ON THE RIGHT PROP BRIEFLY TOUCHED THE TARMAC, THEN BOUNCED BACK UP.NO BENDING IS EVIDENT AT ALL, THAT BLADE IS PERFECTLY STRAIGHT.  AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, THAT BLADE HAS A ROUGH EDGE ABOUT AN INCH LONG, WITH NO OTHER DAMAGE.NONE OF THE OTHER BLADES TOUCHED ANYTHING, SO NONE HAS ANY DAMAGE.NO SPINNER DAMAGE, OF COURSE.IT IS INTERESTING TO ME THAT A MECHANIC IS ALLOWED TO FILE NORMAL NICKS FROM A PROP AT ANY TIME, AND THE ACCEPTED RULL IS THAT NO PROP REMOVAL/REPAIR MEANS NO PROP STRIKE.YOU AND YOUR MECHANIC HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT IS PROPER HERE.REMEMBER NO POWER OR ROTATION, SO NO REASON TO SUSPECT THE MAGS OR ANY ROTATIONAL ITEMS.THIS AIRPLANE IS EQUIPPED WITH COLLINS DIGITAL NAV-COM, WITH THE VOR/LOC INDICATOR, A COLLINS ADF SYSTEM AND COLLINS TRANSPONDER WITH MODE “C”THE AUDIO PANEL HAS BEEN UPGRADED TO A PS ENGINEERING ONE WITH INTERCOM AND THE TRAY AND CONNECTORS ARE STILL INSTALLED AND WIRED, BUT THE AUDIO PANEL  UNIT IS NOT INCLUDED HERE.THE SECOND NAV-COM HAS BEEN REMOVED AND IS NOT INCLUDED.UNLIKE MANY OF THE DUCHESS AIRCRAFT, THIS ONE HAS A REAL ALTITUDE HOLD AUTOPILOT WITH ELECTRIC TRIM, THE CENTURY III.THIS IS A NICE, FEATURE RICH SYSTEM AND MAKES THIS AIRPLANE FAR BETTER FOR CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHTS.IF YOU ARE A PILOT LOOKING TO ADD TWIN HOUR TO YOUR RESUME, THIS AIRPLANE WOULD BE HARD TO BEAT!!THE ENGINES AND AIRFRAME ARE BOTH LOW TIME, AND THE PRICE COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH AN OLD APACHE, WHOSE MAINTENANCE ISSUES CAN KILL YOU!THIS AIRPLANE IS CURRENTLY TIED DOWN AT THE BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA AIRPORT, A SLEEPY LITTLE PLACE JUST OVER AN HOURS DRIVE NORTH OF PITTSBURG.WE WILL PAY THE TIE-DOWN FEE FOR 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION, AND MORE TIME WOULD BE AVAILABLE AT YOUR EXPENSE IF YOU NEED IT.LOGBOOKS FOR ENGINES, PROPS AND AIRFRAME ARE INCLUDED.THE ANNUAL HAS JUST RECENTLY EXPIRED.FAA BILL OF SALE AND FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE ARE INCLUDED.THIS IS A LOT OF LIGHT TWIN, WITH GREAT TIMES AND LIMITED DAMAGE, AT A GREAT PRICE!DON’T MISS THIS!!
