Famous for their jewel-like colors suspended in rich, luminous glazes, the Natzlers worked collaboratively until Gertrud’s death in 1971. Trained as atextile designer in Vienna, Otto Natzler met Gertrud Amon in 1933, and sheintroduced him to clay. In 1938, the couple, by then married, immigrated to theUnited States after the annexation of Austria by Germany. Arriving with onepotter’s wheel and a small kiln, the couple made ends meet by teaching, andworked steadily on their ceramics. They perfected their glazes and refined formsover three decades, from 1939 to 1971. While Gertrud worked as the masterpotter, Otto was the master chemist of the glazes and the wizard of the kiln.Gertrud’s elegant forms echo the art nouveau elements of the ViennaSecessionist movement and are the epitome of weightless grace and refinement.Otto perfected over 2, 000 glazes, which he invented to imbue each particularvessel with its unique color and texture. Otto passed away in April of 2007 at the age of 99.                SHIPPING: Winning bidder pays for insured USPS Priority shipping.  Winning New York bidder pays applicable statesales tax.  International shipping chargeis $55. Winning international bidders are responsible for any import taxesimposed by their particular country. Payment via PAYPAL is due within five days of the end of the auction.
