The Best Collectables From Alaska On eBay!*** Very Nice Vintage Pottery By Matthew Adams. Excellent lidded vase! *** Beautiful mid century covered vase by Matthew Adams (Only the LIDDED VASE is for sale in this auction). It is roughly 6" tall.. We have collected his works for many years totaling at least 1000 of his items. We were actually in contact with him exchanging snail mails phone calls and gifts. Matthew has long since passed. The information presented below is from our Website devoted to the Wonderful works of MATTHEW ADAMS. It is copywrited.:Matthew was born and raised in Japan as a British subject. He attended prep school in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada).He went on to studies at the Cornish School of Arts in Seattle for approximately 3 years. In 1953, Matthew worked as a pottery artist for Sascha Brastoff at his studio in California where he produced/painted the Alaska pottery line - he was not a protege of Sascha’s - nor was the pottery produced from a cabin/studio in Alaska. All of the Alaska line pieces from that time period were signed "Sascha B". Matthew later left Brastoff's employment in 1954, and he continued to produce the Alaska line himself, from his own studio in California and shipped up to gift shops in Alaska, at the request of Josephine Lynn from the McKinley Gift Shop in Anchorage. The Ketchikan Trading Post wanted a handwritten "Alaska" put on all of the pieces and so Matthew began to put the Black "Alaska" logo on the bottoms of all the pieces. Most gift shops had their own paper labels and put them on their stock.The "Alaska" logo in gold was added to the pottery in the 1980's.*** Feel free to check out my eBay "Me" page.***
