Antique Late 19thC Nippon Handpainted Jeweled Roses Landscape Dresser Box
Item History & Price
Up for bids is this Antique Late 19thC Nippon Handpainted Jeweled Roses Landscape Dresser Box. The box stands 3" high x 5 1/2" diameter. This exquisite antique late 19th century Nippon dresser box features sage green jeweled enamel beads covering the bottom and lid with gold gilt and three cartouches of pink and yellow handpainted cabbage roses with sage green leaves surrounded by... a gold gilt frame. The center handpainted landscape scene depicts boats on water with trees in the foreground and mountains in the background with a gold gilt border. The background is a pale, pale shade of pink and the bottom of the box is a crisp white with gold gilt bands and a thin scalloped band.
Marked on the underside with the Maple Leaf green Nippon mark which dates this box to 1891.
(This mark was used between 1891 through 1910).
Condition is excelent. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. Nice and clean inside and out. Under magnification I was able to see a minuscule dark scuff on the gold gilt frames of two of the rose cartouches, with one causing a couple of gold gilt beads to have been worn off all which are very, very hard to notice.
