Early Weber Costello 12" World Globe Cast Bronze Lion's Paw Feet Stand
Early 1930's World Globe on Iron Ball Claw Foot Stand, 12 inch globe by Weber Costello Co. Chicago Heights, Illinois - The globe was made by Weber Costello. The globe itself is covered with 12 individual chromolithographed paper gores over a plaster orb. The map is detailed and in addition to political borders, rivers and more, it also shows finely printed isothermal lines and ocean currents. Colo...rs are well preserved and details are crisp. The mounting consists of cast bronze ornate Victorian/ Art Nouveau details, which rests on an elegant base of the same, finished in bronze with molded bronze hour dial, raised via a short decorative arm on cast bronze tripod base with foliate decoration terminating in lion's paw feet. England - Length of a degree of Longitude along each Latitude circle thus, Circumference of each Latitude circle Distance through earth (Diameter) of each Latitude circle thus, The above distance shown in English Miles. - The curvature of the earth's surface per mile is about 2 inches, thus 1 mile = 2 inches. - Equation of Time Showing the difference of time between the Clock & Sun as well as the Sun's declination for every day of the year. - Isothermic lines for January and July with temperatures in Fahrenheit, warm and cold ocean currents and monsoons, - The Antarctic with mostly projected coastline and two notes reading Amundsen Dec.14.1911 and Scott Jan.18.1912, the North Pole with a note reading Pear 6 Apri Byrd & _ _ , MA _ _.
Overall dimensions: 15ʺW × 15ʺD × 22ʺHCondition: Overall, very well preserved condition. Details are crisp, colors warm with a perfect vintage appeal. A little wear on Union of Socialist Soviet Republic's Russian Socialist Federal Soviet Republic, as shown in pics. There is a small hole in the plaster on South America, as shown in the pic. The base is exceptionally well preserved, no cracks, rust or other wear. Please see pictures for details.
