Ethiopia Very old Ethiopian coptic Ge’ez manuscript or bible in a leather priest bag. This Coptic manuscript is made in mid 18th century.Size are 12.5 cm x 9 cm and with 3 handpainted icons.Total 150 pages with wood covers an old leather manuscript bag.

Each page written by hand in Ge'ez on vellum using red and black ink and bound in a cover with small cotton fabric inserts to the inside covers - vellum is fine parchment from a calf or goat skin - the red ink is used for religious saints or names of holy figures - see photographs for condition.Good condition for age - some cracks to spine as shown in photographs - some soiling to pages with usual smudge marks and occasional holes, which are normal characteristics for this type of bible of this age. A good example in age appropriate condition. Please refer to the photos as they form an integral part of the description.Parchment leaves (animal skin) inscribed with black and red in the Ethiopian script on both sides of the leaves. Probably in ‘Geez’, the language of the Ethiopian Church. Bound between two book covers made of wood. Overall, all parts of the Bible reveal an impressive old quality and usage with a beautiful patina. This bible is from the the early 1800’s, and is museum quality and a rare one of a kind item that would complement your collection or home.Early 18th-Century.
