HISTORY
Ichizaemon Morimura founded a trading firm known as Morimura Gumi in 1876 during the Meiji period in Japanese history. A store was opened by Toyo Morimura in New York City in order for Morimura brothers to export hand painted porcelain dinnerware and decorative items to the United States. Nippon introduced their tapestry decorated pieces in response to the rose tapestry created by Royal Bayreuth.
DESCRIPTION
This listing is for an antique Nippon linen tapestry decorated vase with hand painted English garden roses in varying colors and in full bloom. The vase is conical in shape with the linen fabric covering the entire exterior. The rose flowers were hand painted in shades of yellow and pink tones. The rose foliage is also hand painted in delicate shades of teal and forest greens. The rim and base of the vase have been hand painted with gold gilt. The bottom of the vase carries the blue underglaze Nippon blue maple leaf Hand Painted mark.
CONDITION
This antique Nippon linen tapestry rose flower vase is in wonderful condition; the porcelain is free of any signs of damage such as chips, cracks, flea bites, scratches, and repairs. The linen tapestry fabric is also totally intact and free of any signs of damage. I did notice one area on the edge of the rim where there is a drop of adhesive which is a result of the process of attaching the linen fabric to the body of the vase. This area does not represent an area of damage but rather is a result of the process used to attach the linen fabric to the surface.
This antique Nippon vase has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.
