This vase is a faithful and beautifully painted rendition of a Keramic Studio Magazine color supplement by Alice Willits Donaldson, from the March 1910 issue. I will include a color copy of it. Note the subtleties in coloration and the fine texture brushed onto the leaves. I believe Donaldson copied it from a Noritake Morimura design, making it Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, and Japonisme all in one.It is artist signed F. McDaniel. That would be Frances, according to the person who s...old it to me in 2006. The McDaniel family was prominent in both Waco, Texas and Waco, Alabama (yes!). She lived in Texas from 1875-1920 and was noted as a fine china painter. The vase stands 11-3/8 inches high, 5 inches at its widest part, and 4-1/8 inches in diameter at the mouth. The condition is wonderful with no chips, cracks or loss of paint. The porcelain blank, which is slightly heavier than that from Limoges or Austria is marked R&Co with a crown, an early Rosenthal, Bavaria mark of 1891-1906. There is also a presentation inscription on the bottom dating it at 1912. It says “Wilfred and Frances (to) Myrtle and Nona 1912”.Although USPS now charges an exorbitant dimensional weight for something this size, I will eat the difference above 5 pounds.
