THORENSBIJOU ORIGINAL ART DECO VINTAGE PETROL POCKET LIGHTER WITH CLOCK Thisis an early version of the Thorens Bijou Original petrol/fluid pocketlighter which is fitted with a working clock. The clock face isunmarked, and has an outside graduated minute track. The hour andminute hands are fitted and the clock keeps regular time afterwinding. The crown may well have been replaced at some time. Thiswas first introduced in 1927 and is the locking pushbutton type. Itcarries patent number ...81816 which is the earliest Thorens patent forthe single claw Original. Ithas an engine turned body in a cross hatch pattern and has a nickelsilver plated finish. Thebase filler screw is original and the mechanism works well andproduces a very strong spark. Itwill require lighter fluid and a flint if it is to be used. Thelighter measures 49mm high x 30mm wide x 10mm deep and has a Swisspatent number 81816 which was first applied for in January 1919. Thereare no dings or dents on the body but there is a very light scratchmark adjacent to the clock.
