In late 1961, North American Aviation Inc. was awarded two significant contracts for NASA's Apollo "moon" program, including the Command/Service Module, and the second stage (S-II) of the incredibly powerful Saturn V rocket. North American Aviation's Space & Information Division (S&ID), set up in 1960, was tasked with the development and construction of those vital components of the Apollo missions. The project demanded grueling hours of work by the S&ID team, but the w...orkers knew doing their part to the best of their ability would hopefully lead to a successful lunar mission. The pay was almost certainly commensurate with the pressure and hours, and the team was also gifted specially engraved Zippo lighters by North American Aviation as a show of gratitude. North American Aviation merged with Rockwell-Standard in 1967, and the company became known as North American Rockwell, and their logo was changed soon thereafter. This Vintage 1965 NASA APOLLO MOON PROGRAM NAA SPACE & INFO DIV. ENGRAVED ZIPPO LIGHTER is in very good condition, REMAINING NON-FUNCTIONAL, and with some light overall scratching, spot patina, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the lighter is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough brushed stainless steel construction. Most interestingly, it's the classic "slim line" model, bears the traditional "NAA" logo factory engraved at front, along with "S&ID" for their Space & Information Division, and dates to 1965 by the "ZIPPO®" maker's stamp flanked by a single dot on the left side at bottom.
