For sale is an interestingA.J. Russell stereoview purporting to show the laying of the last rail on the trans-continental railroad. Stereoview comes from an superb, estate-fresh collection of western/railroad stereoviews I recently acquired from a Washington D.C. estate. While the back of the stereoview looks correct and I found other interesting A.J. Russell stereoviews in the collection, I can not be entirely confident about this particular one as the two stereoview images have... been laid over two other existing images. It is not unheard of for photographers to overlap images owing to repairs, or using old unused or unbought stereoviews as a mount for new images they hope might sell better, but there is also a possibility that someone laid the images over an old card at a later, or more recent date. For that reason, I am starting this off at $9.95 with no reserve and I will accept returns for a year after auction close should buyer decide they want to return it. Images appear to have real age and exhibit moderate signs of wear. Please see my other auction for more great stereoviews from this collection, including other F. Jay Haynes Northern Pacific Stereographs as well as important images by A. J. Russell from Union Pacific Railroad Views, and by Alfred Hart from the Central Pacific Railroad Company. I will combine shipping for multiple stereoviews bought by same customer. Shipping: $3.60 in the US; $22 worldwide.
