Now let's talk about thisbeautiful Willcox & Gibbs, as described by Alex.
James Edward Allen Gibbs wasa farmer who rarely saw the outside world. When he came across a picture of aGrover & Baker machine he decided to try and copy it. Because he had onlyseen the top half of the machine he had to imagine how the bottom would workand invented a unique machine. People say Gibbs designed the machine in theshape of the letter G, after his initial. What he had not realised wasthat he had invented a completely new method of sewing, the chain stitch. Infact he did not even patent it for a while. He teamed up with business partner, Charles Willcox and between them they made one of the most famous sewingmachines in the world. The stunning British casthand-cranks were only fitted to the models imported to Great Britain. I havelots of history and patent details on my Sewalot site. There is ORIGINALINSTRUCTIONS and a box of goodies. The original case has had some repair andthe key is included. Don’t miss this wonderfulopportunity to own a great piece of sewing history. She will be pride of placein any display. Whether you are investing in the history of your country ormaking authentic Civil War clothes this is the beauty that ticks allthe boxes. The stitch is identical to the chain stitch of the period. To find one complete isunusual. To find one in such a condition is simply amazing.
