Chapin adoptsthe hat and coat of Robey’s ‘Prime Minister of Mirth’.Photo is 3 7/8 x 4 3/16 inches, crease to lower left corner (see iamges).[No place but London]: dated ...1939’ on the verso, butprobably 1933.Provenance: estate of Lady Blanche Robey (inscription toverso of photo [see images].This image looks to be from the same ‘session’ as the onlineimage in the ‘charliechaplinarchive.org’. This is described as having beentaken at the Prince’s Theatre in London, on 3rd March, 1933, and thatthe copyright belongs to the Daily Sketch. The present image has a note on theverso, in Lady Robey’s hand “George Robey & Charlie Chaplin exchange hats backstageHolborn Empire 1939”, there is also a very faint ink stamp which is notlegible. This was probably written in the ‘60s and Lady Robey was mistaken.
