Late 19th century needlepoint picture c.1870. Worked in wool on gauze, this needlepoint is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The scene is a winsome one of a young girl dressed in red holding a large bouquet of flowers. She is standing in front of a doorway which is surrounded by trailing ivy.The gauze which is visible around the edges of the needlepoint has overall discolouration consistent with its age, quite brown. The colours of the wool are good with some s...mall areas of stitch loss around the edges and a small area of damage in the trellis in the upper left quadrant. The last photo is if the reverse of the needlepoint and indicates how the colours would have it was first stitched. As can also be seen from the photographs, there is some minor damage and visible tack marks around the edges of the gauze from where the needlepoint has been tacked onto a stretcher or backing board at some point of time.Measures 14 1/2" x 18 1/2" ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
