This reel is an excellent example of a well cared for high end reel from the early part of the last century. The “German Silver” (nickel silver) plating shows well with only minor scratches visible under bright lighting. There is absolutely no sign of pitting on the plating, and only slight wear marks on the spool. Remarkably there are NO scratches on the maroon �...��Hard Rubber” or Ebonite side plates. All side plate screws are free from gouge marks, and there are NO cracks in the side plates from over tightening the screws. The “Hard Rubber“ side plates are extremely susceptible to discoloration from sunlight and water, yet these Ebonite side plates are uniform in color with no fading, putting or cracking. The black handle is equally free of wear, discoloration or scratches.The Oilers on this reel are marked PAT. July 14, 96 and serial no. C149 on foot. This German silver and hard rubber casting reel has an extra wide 2 1/4" spool and top pillar and is a lighter version surf reel. This is the smaller size 1 with a star drag and single rim switch, a scarce model in outstanding used and working condition.

This reel is the “wide body“ 2¼ inches model.This reel was based on the 560 model Star reel, but unlike the model 560 had three pillars.
