In the Indonesian language the word kulit means skin and derivatively anything skin derived or like (leather and bark for example) and this candle holder is appropriately made out of hide, on which is painted the puppet character widely known from the Ramayana stories.
I’ve had it for ten years as we lived in Sumatra for 6 and need to downsize now that the kids are flying the co...op.
I notice the rustic look stitching has unraveled a few stitches. It’s probably been that way since it came from the tourist hawker’s pack.
By no means fine art but a good conversational piece and the wrought iron circle feet don’t scratch the table.
It has about tad more than a 4” square footprint.
