Late 19th century needlepoint picture c.1870 or slightly later. Worked in wool, this needlepoint is just delightful with neat stitch work throughout. The midnight blue background is stitched with a charming scene of a serene looking cat lying on a red tasseled cushion, his tail curled neatly around his body. The needlepoint is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the yea...rs. It is contained within a bird's eye maple frame with gilt slip, possibly its original. Both are in good condition with scratches and scuff marks commensurate with their age. There is some minor veneer loss to the corners and a couple of areas on the upper right side. The last photo is of the reverse of the frame and shows the backing board has been replaced at some point of time. Measures 13" across x 12" (sight size) and 17 3/4" x 16 3/4" including the frame. PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE SAMPLER ITSELF. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. ALSO PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER SAMPLERS I'M SELLING. I AM HAPPY TO COMBINE POSTAGE ON MULTIPLE PURCHASES.PLEASE NOTE - THIS ITEM IS LOCATED IN THE UK BUT CAN BE SHIPPED TO THE LOCATIONS TICKED IN THE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING SECTION.
