This is a 19th century Excelsior Concertina made by G.G.K.S. in its Original Box
Stahltone (German for Steel Reeds) 20 buttons plus 1 No cracks, tears or holes in the bellows Still has the original leather straps You'll notice in the images that the wood is cracked in the grilles on both ends, some of the veneer is cracked and stained.
It ...still plays! Well, some of the keys stick... But, it still plays.
Dimensions: Concertina - 7 1/2" (angled point to angled point) x 6 1/2" (flat side to flat side) x 5" (when closed) 6 1/2" (including handles) Box - 8" (angled point to angled point) x 7" (flat side to flat side) x 7 1/2" (tall)
Weight: 2 lb 1 1/2 oz (including box)
The box has seen better days, but it is still in tact. The cap part of the lid is stapled onto the rim, and some of the cardboard has torn through the staple holes. So, half of the lid is sunken, but still connected to the rim. Still, it's a pretty cool fake wood grain, hexagon shaped box and lid.
There's still a partial label that shows some crazy artwork. It also still shows "Excelsior Concertina" and the maker's name in the lower left-hand corner - G.G.K.S., although, despite research, I couldn't tell you if GGKS is German, or Italian, or English, or...
The "Stahltone" metal tag attached to the bellows is not the name brand. Rather, it tells us that the reeds are those new fangled steal, and not the old fashioned brass ones.
If the grille were fixed I think the keys would straighten themselves out and it would play better... But I'm a preserver, not a restorer.
It's been part of my flock of collectables for many years. And now it's time for others to admire.
Be sure to look at the image closely, as they are part of the description.
