While it is referred to as a Carrera, it does not use the Carrera case but a unique design, to be opened from the front, after removing the crystal. Sized at 36mm wide x 43mm lug to lug x 13.5mm thick, the stainless steel case is clean in its design. It features long lugs, small round pump chronograph pushers and pushers at 8 and 10 o'clock, for changing the month, day and date. Interestingly, both the month and week-day functions can be set via the pusher at ten o'clock, by pressing it lightly for the month, and strongly for the day to change. The case-back is signed by Heuer-Leonidas.
The watch is a three-register chronograph, with three sub-dials featuring the thirty-minute counter at three o’clock, the twelve-hour counter at six o’clock and a running seconds at nine o’clock. The sub-dials have black stick hands and concentric engraved circles, creating depth on the face. The unrestored, silver dial also features a painted blue circle for the day, shown with a white hand with a red crescent pointer. The day and month apertures are placed at twelve, under a solitary, applied Arabic "12". The original luminous material on the hands have aged to a creamy yellow, with the circular luminous hour markers matching in color. Applied, elongated steel index markers and a black, painted chronograph track finish off the look. Despite the numerous functions, the design is clean and very readable.
This Heuer Carrera 12 Dato is powered by the ever-reliable and widely-used Valjoux 72C column-wheel movement. This manual-winding chronograph caliber has been used in other watch models, such as the Rolex Daytona, as well as later Heuer models, including the Autavia.
The watch was owned by a photographer who took great care of it. The original band is not present. It is currently on a stretch band with an addition (not functioning) calendar. Crystal does have light scuffs to surface seen with a loop. I have not polished the case so it has some dirt in the crevices. Marked 2547 (reference) on one end and 210745 (serial number) on the other. On May-15-19 at 21:30:29 PDT, seller added the following information:This is actualy a 723 movement not the 72c as stated in the description.
