You are bidding on an antique, AMERICAN (Philadelphia) tooth paste Cover or "pot lid" as they are more commonly referred to. This lid and the design which it features, is considered by knowledgeable & experienced American pot lid collector's, to be possibly the earliest of the American pot lids that have currently been identified. It dates to pre-Civil War period....possibly around 1850....making it around 170 years old. The lid measures 2 3/4" X 2 3/4" Lid only. ...No base section provided with this auction. Eugene Roussell emigrated to the USA in 1838 and was one of the earliest "perfumers" and pharmacists in the USA. He also trading in early seltzer water and mineral & soda waters. (see pic 4)
