FABULOUS TALL / SLIM WW2 "RAF" SILVER CIGARETTE CASE ASSAYED IN 1939 - 6.15 ozt FABULOUS TALL / SLIM WW2 "RAF" SILVER CIGARETTE CASE ASSAYED IN 1939 - 6.15 ozt This is a terrific find as you can see. This is really good sized tall, weighty and slim World War 2 era sterling silver cigarette case as pictured. It would be ideal for carrying business cards too. With stylish engine turned exterior decoratio...n, front centre it is engraved with the badge of the Royal Air Force together with their motto "Per Ardua Ad Astra" which translates to "Through adversity to the stars"The original elastic cigarette retainer is no longer present inside the case but it can be replaced if required. The easiest way to achieve this would be to swap over a new retainer from a cheap modern metal case. The case measures approximately 3.25" wide by 5" tall and it is about 8mm deep (measured across the rear edge). It has been assayed during 1939 by Alfred Nathan Andrews & Harry Stanley Andrews trading as A Wilcox of Nursery Road, Hockley, Birmingham and it weighs 6.15 troy ounces which equates 191.4 grams. The case has a few shallow surface dents and depressions around the bodywork plus the typical light, faint surface scuffs and scratches that all silver objects such as this tend to attract over the years. There is nothing really nasty or serious to report. I have pictured the case clearly so that you can get an impression of the condition and make a judgement before bidding. The inner gilt wash is still bright and obvious and the case closes with a click and opens easily when the clasp release button is depressed. The lid is sprung so that it can be opened using just one hand. I have left the case it uncleaned and as it was when found so a sustained polish will no doubt further restore former glory. This particularly nice, stylish old wartime RAF related solid silver cigarette or card case is being offered here in a used but good, functional vintage condition, exactly as pictured and with no reserve. Sorry but there is no Buy It Now price available.I often get asked if modern king size cigarettes fit these old cases and the answer is no - they are too big. These days the cases are more often used for keeping hand rolled cigarettes, or "roll-ups" and they are also used by people for carrying business cards, tablets, condoms etc. Credit cards will also fit into this size of case.Items are always shipped via Royal Mail using a tracked and / or signed for service so do please check the costs of this to your location on the postage tab before bidding.
