Original Description:
We are offering for sale an outstanding quality Georgian period silver pint tankard with superbly chased rural scenes. This tankard has been later chased with an expertly embossed scene of hounds hunting a stag within a rural landscape whilst around the other side three ducks quietly feed. The quality of chasing is exceptional! The detail is absolutely fantastic and the dogs in particular are raised a considerable amount from the background. It really is quite incredible workmansh...ip.
The tankard has a hinged cover, which itself is beautifully embossed with a band of flowers and to give an even greater feeling of extra special quality, the interiors of both body and cover are gilt (gold wash). Just look at the quality of the strap hinge and the high intertwined thumb piece!
A perfect size for modern day drinking, this magnificent beer mug has a really satisfying feel in the hand with a very hefty weight and just oozes the highest quality.
The tankard is in fine condition throughout with a lovely patina. There is nothing negative to report.
Please see our other auctions for an equally wonderful wine goblet. Please view our specialist site at antiquesilverspoons for a further large selection of fine quality Victorian, Georgian and earlier wine and drink related silver.  MEASUREMENTS: 17cm (6.7") high; approx. 14cm (5.5") wide (incl. handle); 600 ml (1 pint) capacity; 536 grams (17.25 troy ounces) weight. MARKS: Full set of English hallmarks (guaranteeing Sterling 925 standard silver) for London 1796 by Richard Evans of Shrewsbury. Richard Evans was a major provincial retailer who bought in goods from London and overstruck the original maker's marks with his own. Interestingly, it can be seen under his RE mark on the main body that this tankard was in fact made by the important Bateman workshop (maker's mark PB/AB for Peter & Ann Bateman).  CONDITION: Excellent. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions. Good luck, Gary.  We offer a full money back guarantee, if you are not happy with the item, within fourteen days of receipt. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT US: If you would like to learn more about antique silver then please visit our two specialist sites.  As leading specialists in the field of fine antique silver, our first site at antiquesilverspoons offers a wealth of information and advice about buying silver - in particular canteens of cutlery & early/collectable silver. Our second site at UKsilverexchange explains the impact of the recent high metal prices on antique silver and explains how to best take advantage of the situation.  You can be assured of a professional and friendly service and will never be disappointed with purchases! COMBINED SHIPPING: Should you wish to bid on more than one item, we are always happy to combine postage and save you money!
