Up for sale is a vintage retro classic 1991 Ibis S.S. Serial #1266 Handmade in Sebastopol California. The S.S. replaced the Japanese built Avion in 1990 and was their first hand made in Sebastopol production bike. Some will say the S.S. stands for Super Sport but Ibis founder Scot Nicol has been paraphrased saying it stood for Setting Sun, or S’long Suckers, which I prefer. The frame is tig-welded Prestige steel with double-butted head tube, top tube, down tube, and seat tube, and a ...Koski unicrown fork. The size I would consider a largish medium, especially with the 5” riser bars, long Salsa stem, and lengthy top tube. I’m just under 6 ft. and the bike fits me well. By switching out the handlebars, the bike could be a “true medium “The top tube measures 22’’ C-C and the seat tube is 18.5” C-C. Ibis, who is known for their exquisite paint jobs, did a lovely white to maroon fade on this one. This mountain bike is well-balanced and rides like a dream. This bike was designed for the rigid Koski fork and Salsa stem, which pair with the Ibis frame perfectly.This hand crafted mountain bike is nearly 30 years old and has its original paint job and decals. There are surface scuffs and scratches to the paint and decals due to the fact that this bike has actually been ridden. It has been well maintained and cared for though-and has absolutely no dents, dings, or structural damage. I purchased this lovely bike from another avid Bay Area vintage collector about a year and a half ago, and basically garaged it after switching out some of the less desirable components and parts, upgrading to some high quality and collectible ones I had on hand.
