Reference Number: Avaluer:7054337 |
William Brodrick was trained as a barrister and medical doctor, but created a life for himself as a falconer and taxidermist. An accomplished artist, he produced the original paintings and lithographs for Francis Salvin's 1855 book Falconry in the British Isles..., considered the most important English work on falconry. Brodrick was also the first person, in the late 1840s, to have ambrotype photographs taken of himself with his falcons - the earliest known photographs of birds of prey.
These diaries consist of 37 individual books, each a daily journal called "Pawsey's London Diary", which cover the years 1849-1884. In them, he records details about his falconry, his personal life & his artistic pursuits, including the time covering the preparation and publication of Falconry in the British Isles. Brodrick also records more mundane details of his life, including finances, inventories, and the weather every day.
Each journal measures approximately 7 1/2" x 3". They are in generally very good condition, with a few showing wear to the covers. They are complete, as an archive.
