C. 1800 This snuff bottle is a very fine example from the Qing dynasty era. It is extremely well carved and well polished with figures of a monkey riding an elephant and flanked by rabbits and pheasants. The monkey riding an elephant with a gold coin within grasp as well as the rabbit are all symbols Growth, wealth and prosperity. The pheasant in particular is interesting since this is a symbol of nobility and often associated with high-ranking officials. It could be that this was a gift for a promotion in career in hopes of bringing the recipient further prosperity.
The old stopper and spoon with this example is particularly nice made of silver with a Tourmaline stone and decorated with Ruyi heads.
Similar form and style bottles have been sold through major auction houses over the years, I just included a picture of the most recent similar example I could find being sold through Sotheby's in 2017.
