Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:707882 | Main Stone: Diamond |
Brand: Van Cleef & Arpels | Metal: Platinum |
Up for bid is a beautiful pair of two (2) identical vintage Van Cleef & Arpels VCA Platinum Sapphire and Diamond Art Deco Brooches or Pins from the 1950's. These are heirloom pieces that have been passed down in the owner's family. I have had a GIA certified master gemologist conduct a verbal appraisal of these pieces and the information contained in this listing are his findings.
Each piece is identical and measures 1.25" long by .5" wide. One is clearly marked with ..."Van Cleef & Arpels" and the number "18115" (see pics). The gemologist and local jeweler's findings indicate that these were originally either cuff links or earrings and that when the pieces were inherited by possibly two daughters or sons, they were converted into brooches so that both children could have a piece of the inheritance. Typically, only one of a pair of vintage jewelry was signed. Also, the experts can see where there was a connection on the back of the middle smaller circle on both items.
Each of these pieces weighs 4.0 grams on a jewelry scale (8.0 grams total). The diamonds are brilliant and transitional cut and total carat weight for the diamonds is 2.24 carats or 1.12 carats for each brooch. The sapphires are heat treated, non altered man made (synthetic) flux grown sapphires and the total carat weight is 1.5 carats for both. The age is estimated to be around 70 years old (1950's).
Besides the remnants of the connection point described in the 2nd paragraph, they are in excellent condition with no major flaws and average wear. These pieces, though modified, show the VCA craftsmanship. The pin and its mounts are white gold.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thanks for looking!!
NOTE: These will be shipped fully insured with signature required.
