MID-20TH CENTURY VINTAGE OLIVE GREEN/GOLDEN MUSTARD EMBOSSED FIGURATIVE BOTTLE/ FLASK, W/BIRD & FLOWER STEM IN ITS BEAK GRAPHIC ICONOGRAPHY, W/ ORIGINAL CORK STOPPER(Circa 1958-1966)American Modernist figurative glass

DESCRIPTION:There are no flea-bites to its upper edge at the bottle's opening or to its lower edge along its base. Additionally, there are no h...airline cracks associated with this terrific vintage Modernist embossed olive green/mustard yellow large figurative bottle or flask. It still has the remnants of its original cork stopper. It's most likely American but could just as easily be Italian, since the Italians were famous for their Modernist glass, often exhibiting a similar conceptual disposition and stylized graphic iconography. The facia of the glass bottle or flask, features a standing dove or partridge holding the stem of a single cut flower in its beak. This may seem innocuous and completely disassociated from the period (early to mid 1960's) in which the bottle was fashioned but it also could be a subtle, universal and sublime artistic call for peace and the end of wholesale killing, in light of the raging, bloody Vietnam War engulfing nearly the whole of Southeast Asia at the time, claiming tens of thousands of Vietnamese and American lives, even at that early date. The global appeal for peace was real and this Modernist glass embossed bottle may be further evidence of the international preoccupation with that conflict, which threatened the entire world with the potential of nuclear conflict and the annihilation of the world as we knew it. Sometimes a bottle is not just a bottle and things aren't quite what they appear to be on the surface. Very nice.
