SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –CORNING*WARE -CORNING Inc (est 1851) – a powerhousecompany who produced the brands: CORNING*WARE (was launched in 1959 - a wide array of items and patterns were available over the years. Significant changes in design came in 1972 and a complete re-work of products came after World Kitchen Inc took ownership after 2000.);Corelle and PYREX (developed by Corning Glass in 1912 ... PYREX has beenproduced in 3 Major Categories: CLEAR (1915 -); Flameware (1936-79); Coloured(Clear and Milk Glass) (1947-))...CORNING's CORNING WARE was originally made from "thermal-shock-proof"glass - from 1959 - 1990s-2000, PYROCERAM. This material was suitable fortable-top, stove-top, microwave, oven, broiler - and dishwasher safe. Removeable Handle - This was a device designed so that handles would not be in the way while cooking & baking - pots, skillets, casseroles could then also be carried to the table with the handle attached then removed again, once delivered, to use less table space. The tab handles have a sculpted ledge for grasping onto. This line of cookware wasdesigned as "STOVE-TOP to TABLE-WARE" - in thatthe DETACHABLE-HANDLES (sold separately) were attached for cooking andremoved when placed table-top - convenient & space-saving.CORNING*WARE DetachableHandles were designed to be used for CORNING Casseroles - 4 styles werereleased in all - P-10-HG (Black OR White versions); A-10-HG; P-201-HG; and aMini-Handle. P-Style detach-able handles were made to be used on older items. Significant changes in design came in 1972 - dishesbecame more squared and sides were more straight. A-Style detach-able handles weremade to be used on these newer items.HOWEVER - DetachableHandles tended to be used for stove-top purposes MORE than oven-baking - fitting onto PYREX Flameware skillets and saucepans well.Bakelite FLAT-Handles made1964-7 are microwave & stove-top safe BUT oven-safeonly up to ~350 F (so stay below 325 F to be safe) - above which they are knownto blister.
