18th Century Hand Embroidered Flame Stitch Purse With Provenance
It measures 6" by 4".
Worked with bright colors, reds, green, tans and backed with heavy paper.
Lined with green silk.
The flap has embroidered initials, PVC. Inside are three pieces of paper with penciled information. One reads "Great Great Grandmother Sawyer's"
Another reads "Martha Jewett Sawyer-Vilburn(or Wilburn)"
The third piece reads "Irugah(I think) Sawyer th...is pocket book Martha Sawyer worked for her daughter Patty Sawyer"
It was found in Southern Central Maine, the second of two from the same source.
As found untouched original condition.
The silk lining is worn on the edges and folds. The colors are slightly muted on the front. There is some scattered wool loss.
