VINTAGE WHITING AND DAVIS CHARLIE CHAPLIN mesh purse. Condition is used. There is a small discoloration of 9 tiny beads (approximately 516 x 516 on top left on back of purse. (See photo). One of the tiny beads may have lost some enamel. No rips or tears in lining. However there are a couple of small pink marks on lining. Theses are not visible when you open bag normally. (See photos). At bottom left of purse, the hem is open. It hangs fine and is not noticeable. This is first time I ever noticed... it. Please examine photos for condition.BELOW is an appraisal for a purse similar to this one on Antiques Road Show in June 22, 2002 in Cleveland. You can search for this appraisal on line. Antiques Road Show June 22, 2002:APPRAISER:This mesh bag is made by Whiting Davis, which is a very well-known manufacturer of beaded bags and mesh bags. Very high quality. And this particular bag is made of, um... what we call spider mesh. The chain on the bag is a rounded chain, a very long rounded chain. So you have a bag of very excellent construction-- the hardware to the mesh to the chain itself, but the most intriguing thing about it is the image on it. And, of course, we know who that is.GUEST:Right.APPRAISER:But did you know that it's part of a rare set of portrait pursesGUEST:I heard that it was part of a set, but we never knew what or how or who they were.APPRAISER:Well, it's made by a company that did the image itself, called the Heritage Company. They made very few. They're so rare, in fact, that in some of the reference materials that we have, they don't even give a price. They just say "very rare."GUEST:ReallyAPPRAISER:But I'm going to, um... refer you to a book that I brought with me today that illustrates this bag as one of four in a series. They did one of Renée Adorée, which is in beautiful colors also one of Marion Davis in blues, cool colors one of Clark Gable and then finally, the one of Charlie Chaplin. It's the only one that was done in black and white, so that makes it even a little more rare.GUEST:ReallyAPPRAISER:Now, the reason that they're also considered to be very rare is because they were recalled and discontinued.GUEST:ReallyAPPRAISER:And so they weren't on the market for very long. And there's lots of rumors about why that might have happened, but the most prevalent rumor is because the manufacturer wanted to protect themselves from lawsuits from the heirs of the Hollywood stars.GUEST:Really I didn't know that.APPRAISER:So it's a rather fascinating story.GUEST:Oh, wow.APPRAISER:If you found this bag... You know, if you were out in the marketplace today and you were shopping, what do you think you might pay for itGUEST:Well, I would only buy it because it has Charlie Chaplin on it. The purse really doesn't interest me. I like the image. But I imagine a hundred, 150, somewhere in that area.APPRAISER:I'm going to put an appraised value on it of at least 650, and in my opinion, that's a conservative price in today's market.GUEST:

Up for auction is a sculpture depicting Mickey Mouse as Charlie Chaplin that was commissioned by Michael Jackson in 1984 and displayed by him at Neverland. We purchased it out of the estate of a life long friend of Ward Kimball who had purchased a number of items from the Michael Jackson estate. We will send the winning bidder a link to the auction which is still on-line. As is well known Michael Jackson loved Mickey Mouse and was an avid admirer of Charlie Chaplin. Disney has never done a figur...ine or any item that depicts Mickey Mouse as Charlie Chaplin, so it is not surprising that Michael Jackson had this figure commissioned.A very unique and beautiful piece as can be seen in the pictures. Approximately 7 34" tall with the base to which it is attached. Please contact us with any questions.00104

CHARLIE CHAPLIN-TILLIE'S PUNCTURED ROMANCE-ORIGINAL TITLE CARD MOVIE POSTER-Re release 1950Unrestored lobby card with very good color and overall good very presentable appearance. and may have the usual mild edge wear, creases, small tears, pinholes, surface scuffing, minute paper lifts, slight paper loss, stains or smudges andor toning. The re-release of the very popular 1914 movie Tillies Punctured Romance is notable for a number of reasons, but chiefly remembered for co-starring Chaplin in his... first feature length film. Directed by head of Keystone Mack Sennett, it was also the first feature length comedy and, despite its success, Keystones only feature. This was due to the logistical difficulties involved in shooting such a huge production concurrently with dozens of quick and cheap shorts, all featuring the same actors. Stage star Marie Dressler, secured by Keystone at great cost, was reprising her signature role in the big screen adaptation of the musical stage play, Tillies Nightmare. Dressler, who originated the role, also owned the rights to the 1910 play by A. Baldwin Sloane and Edgar Smith, and had toured it for three years to packed houses and rapturous critical notices. She was also ably supported onscreen by almost all of Keystones biggest stars, including Mabel Normand, Mack Swain and of course, Chaplin. In fact, the only noteworthy omission from this virtual roll call of Keystones stable was Roscoe Fatty Arbuckle. It was perfectly understandable, given his frenetic work rate, which exceeded even Chaplins unimaginably hectic schedule. At least 50 films featuring Arbuckle were released in 1914 alone, including seven with Chaplin.Payment requested within 2 days. Quick, quality shipping includes insurance and professional packing, items are described and depicted as accurately as possible. Please contact with any questions, comments or concerns prior to bidding or leaving feedback.Thank you and happy bidding

This is an antique glamorous original great photo of lovely actorcomedian Charlie Chaplin. The photographer is unknown. This is a real press photo from a collection we are selling from the famed Hugh Pickett Memorabilia Collection (See more on him below). Please feel free to ask questions. Thanks for looking and good luck. The late Hugh Pickett liked to collect stuff. Antiques, art, movie posters, autographed photos of Hollywood stars his Kerrisdale home was brimming with all sorts of treasures.Nine years after Picketts death, it all went up for auction. On Aug. 26, 1915, Loves Auction in Richmond sold off the Hugh Pickett estate. Thousands of pieces went up for grabs, reflecting the diverse tastes of the impresario who was Vancouvers top promoter from the 1940s until the 1980s.He was born Hugh Frank Digby Pickett was born on April 11, 1913 in Vancouver, British Columbia and he went on to be a Canadian impresario who made major contributions to Vancouvers arts and entertainment scene. He started out as a usher and went on to become a manager and press agent with Theatre Under the Stars and brought many entertainers to town from around the world. It is hard to overestimate Hugh Picketts impact on Vancouver. Pickett led the fight to save the Orpheum Theatre when it was threatened with demolition in the 1970s. He talked the manager at the Hotel Georgia into letting Nat King Cole stay there in the 1950s, breaking the color barrier at the big downtown hotels. He was the promoter behind the Rolling Stones show that turned into a riot in 1972.As far as Dietrich goes, he was Marlene Dietrich's business manager for 12 years and they remained friends for even longer.According to Gordon Boyd, who was Picketts partner for 30 years, he had every photo of Dietrich ever printed and many other unique items from the great lady of cinema.Mary Pickford, Elvis Presley, Bette Davis, Mae West, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Tyrone Power, Lillian Gish, Katharine Hepburn, Phyllis Diller, Sir Laurence Olivier, Sir John Gielgud, Margot Fonteyn, Mischa Baryshnikov, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Igor Stravinsky, Arthur Rubenstein, Maria Callas, Leonard Bernstein these are only a few of the people Pickett knew or at least met and had memorabilia from.In 1986, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada in recognition for his involvement with "Vancouver's famed Theatre Under The Stars".Pickett died on Feb. 13, 2006, at the age of 92.

This collection remained undisturbed from his death in 1951 until the early 1980s. The majority of the collection was donated to the Margaret Herrick Library at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts Sciences in 1992. At that time the donation was the largest one-time donation of photographs ever made by a private party to the Library. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, "The Tramp", and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977, and encompassed both adulation and controversy.Chaplin's childhood in London was one of poverty and hardship, as his father was absent and his mother struggled financially, and he was sent to a workhouse twice before the age of nine. When he was 14, his mother was committed to a mental asylum. Chaplin began performing at an early age, touring music halls and later working as a stage actor and comedian. At 19, he was signed to the prestigious Fred Karno company, which took him to America. He was scouted for the film industry and began appearing in 1914 for Keystone Studios. He soon developed the Tramp persona and formed a large fan base. He directed his own films and continued to hone his craft as he moved to the Essanay, Mutual, and First National corporations. By 1918, he was one of the best-known figures in the world. In 1919, Chaplin co-founded the distribution company United Artists which gave him complete control over his films. His first feature-length film was The Kid (1921), followed by A Woman of Paris (1923), The Gold Rush (1925), and The Circus (1928). He refused to move to sound films in the 1930s, instead producing City Lights (1931) and Modern Times (1936) without dialogue. He became increasingly political, and his next film The Great Dictator (1940) satirized A.H.. The 1940s were a decade marked with controversy for Chaplin, and his popularity declined rapidly. He was accused of communist sympathies, while he created scandal through his involvement in a paternity suit and his marriages to much younger women. An FBI investigation was opened, and Chaplin was forced to leave the United States and settle in Switzerland. He abandoned the Tramp in his later films, which include Monsieur Verdoux (1947), Limelight (1952), A King in New York (1957), and A Countess from Hong Kong (1967).Chaplin wrote, directed, produced, edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films. He was a perfectionist, and his financial independence enabled him to spend years on the development and production of a picture. His films are characterized by slapstick combined with pathos, typified in the Tramp's struggles against adversity. Many contain social and political themes, as well as autobiographical elements. He received an Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century" in 1972, as part of a renewed appreciation for his work. He continues to be held in high regard, with The Gold Rush , City Lights , Modern Times , and The Great Dictator often ranked on lists of the greatest films of all time..."OLD ORIGINAL, NO REPRINT OR COPY RARE ITEM FOR THE COLLECTOR OF: FRANCE FRENCH RIVIERA COTE D'AZUR JUAN-LES-PINS CHARLIE CHAPLIN HOLLYWOOD SILENT FILM SILENT MOVI
